The bar chart indicates the mobile-phone subscription numbers in both developed and

developing countries during the period from 2000 to 2008. It is obvious from the chart that the

number of mobile-phone subscriptions in developing countries remained less than that of

developed countries from 2000 to 2002. Whereas starting from 2003, the subscription number in

developing nations began to surpass developed nations, increased from less than 1 billion in 2003

to 4 billion in 2008, in contrast with the slow increase in developed nations, from 0.8 billion to 1

billion.294294

As far as I am concerned, there are several factors that have contributed to this tremendous

change. First of all, the huge gap of population between developed and developing countries may

be the direct reason behind the contrast of mobile-phone subscription numbers. Secondly, the

economic boom which developing countries have experienced during the period have greatly

improved people’s financial situation. The demand for mobile-phone has correspondingly

increased and the affordability of various brands enable people to buy cellphones. Lastly, due to

the development of technology and science, people now live in an era of information. Mobile

phone have become cheaper and necessary. Thus, mobile-phone subscription number in

developing countries has experienced such a rapid increase.

From my perspective, the trend of mobile-phone subscriptions climbing up will continue for

a period of time in the coming future. It will undoubtedly change people’s way of life all around

the world.
